CEREC® Crowns in Washington, DC

At University Centre Dental Associates, Dr. Maurice Haynes offers CEREC® as part of his top-notch general dental services for local residents in and around Washington, DC, including residents in Greenbelt, MD, and Bowie, MD, as well as Prince George’s County, Montgomery County, and Anne Arundel County.

If you have crowns or caps, you are likely familiar with the waiting period between the time the tooth is prepared and the crown is finally delivered and cemented in. But what if you could have a new crown made and fitted during a single visit and generally be done within an hour? It could be possible with the latest technology in cosmetic dentistry called CEREC®.

At University Centre Dental Association, Dr. Maurice Haynes offers this modern technology to his patients, brightening their smiles and increasing their self-confidence.

What Is CEREC®?

CEREC® is a revolutionary system used by Dr. Haynes that enables him to design, fabricate, and fit a new crown, onlay, or inlay in a single visit.

Contrary to unsightly silver dental fillings, CEREC® fillings and restorations are made of tooth-colored ceramic (porcelain), so they look natural and match the other teeth. A CEREC® procedure requires less time, less drilling, and fewer injections than other traditional procedures.

How Does CEREC® Work?

First, Dr. Haynes will examine the patient’s teeth and determine the preparation method he will use to prepare the teeth for restoration, including removing any tooth decay that may be present. Next, he will take a picture, or optical impression, of the affected teeth. This image is converted into a 3D computerized model of the teeth, which serves as a guide to design the new restoration. Then, using the CEREC® technology, he will design and create a tooth filling, dental crown, or veneer, right in the office. Once this process is complete, he can customize the new restoration to stain and match it to the surrounding teeth before polishing or glazing it.

What Are the Benefits of CEREC®?

There are several advantages to using CEREC® to restore a person’s smile. First, everything can be done in a single visit, instead of the normal two or three visits for standard restoration techniques. In addition, only one set of anesthetic injections is required, as the entire procedure can be performed in about an hour. Dr. Haynes is in complete control of the final result, since the entire restoration is designed and fabricated in office. There is no need to send anything to a laboratory, and there also is no need for temporary restorations, which are often required when having Vivaneers™.
